Great post.
The etymology of the word chaos or khaos is interesting. It's Latin roots mean "gaping void," "abyss, that which gapes wide open, is vast and empty." The theological use of the word is "the void at the beginning of creation" the "primeval emptiness of the Universe." So though we distinguish creativity and chaos, in a sense one can not exist without the other. The act of bringing thought to form requires us to surrender our control. We cannot force something to be birthed. Who we are Being, I feel, while thoughts, feelings, manifestations are organizing themselves is the difference between a life of struggle and resistance, or joy and inspiration. Relaxing into the unknown while we discover what wants to happen next. The important thing, I think, is to allow for all of the shades and colors of our internal process to be acknowledged and find expression. In chaos we can allow ourselves to be unreasonable, outrageous, immersed in our imagination until out of the eternal void something is born. There is power in this. This is where great potential is realized. Very cool Lisa, you're coaching. You're such a wonderful writer, I'm glad to read this comment on what you're calling chaos, and how you're re-framing it as creativity. I see that as the chance to reach out and find newness, bring things together in a new way. It reminds me complexity science, the simple observation that all agents move towards self-organization, even single celled animals. Bacteria clump together, die without their multi-celled organizations huddled all together. We just feel as if we're chaotic when in fact, we too are always moving to self-organize.
